At Walsall Academy, we are committed to providing the very best opportunities and education for our students to raise their aspirations and pursue academic, as well as vocational excellence.
In 2019, Ofsted commended us, saying: ‘Sixth-form provision is a strength. It helps students to be successful, independent learners. ’Students are encouraged and nurtured to develop a passion for learning, creativity, an inquisitive mind and the ability to think analytically and critically.
The Sixth Form curriculum ranges from facilitating A-level subjects to accredited professional qualifications, including a newly established suite of T Levels. We are delighted that 79% of our Year 13 entered higher education in 2022, with 14% of them now attending a Russell Group university.
The highlight of Year 12 is the compulsory work placement. In the last five years, we have engaged with over 700 local business and industry leaders, supported students with Higher Education and Employers Fairs at the Academy, conducted practice interviews and advised on CV writing, as well as apprenticeship assessment day training.
It is always a great delight to welcome back our former students to inspire our current cohort to fulfil their potential. At a recent alumni event, one student commented, ‘I’ve never had as much support as I did between 2013 and 2018. Walsall Academy contributed hugely towards the person I’ve become today. The teachers gave me confidence to believe in myself…if I could go back and do it all again, I would!’
