Health Futures UTC

OFFERING educational experiences that are rarely seen in traditional schools, Health Futures University Technical College (UTC) prepares students aged 14 – 19 for a range of health-related careers that span the NHS, Public Health, public sector agencies, private industries, voluntary, charitable and community organisations – locally and nationally.

Principal Ruth Umerah said: “Despite the pandemic, students were able to celebrate their GCSE and A-level results in August 2020, with students moving on to university courses in health or scientific fields including medicine, bio-medical science and nursing.

“Our students areacredit to the school and we will continue to bridge the skills gap in the healthcare sector.”

Students in the region are attracted to Health Futures for a variety of reasons.

The school has a simulated hospital ward and consulting area which allows pupils to develop their clinical skills.

As well as an academic curriculum, students work on employer-led projects which incorporate the use of scenarios and technologies to reflect real life medical situations tailored by a range of healthcare professionals.

Projects are delivered through partnerships formed with health, education and public sector organisations such as West Midlands Ambulance Service and NHS Trusts. These partnerships prepare students for both higher education and employment; gaining nationally recognised qualifications alongside hands-on project learning with healthcare professionals.

The school recently partnered with UK Sepsis Trust and its founder, Dr Ron Daniels on a unique project creating awareness about the disease and how to support patients with recovery, especially during the pandemic. The students who excelled in the project are now the face of the educational department for UK Sepsis Trust. These unique educational experiences make Health Futures UTC different.

Students who would like to join as Year 10 or Year 12 students in September 2021 are invited to email admin@ or visit the school website
