NATIONAL COLLEGE FOR ADVANCED TRANSPORT & INFRASTRUCTURE OFFERS ROUTES INTO RAIL FOR STUDENTS AGED 16 AND ABOVE

NCATI

THE National College for Advanced Transport & Infrastructure (NCATI) is a state-of-the-art training facility based on two campuses in Birmingham and Doncaster.

Relaunched in 2021 as part of the University of Birmingham group, NCATI provides the specialist training, skills and qualifications required to deliver world-class transformational rail projects like HS2.

With work on these projects now underway, and almost 30% of rail workers due to retire by 2025, there is a lot of work available for people with backgrounds in science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM), as well as with creative and digital qualifications.

Up to 120,000 additional people will be required in the transport and infrastructure industry over the next five to ten years; this means roles in rail are now more in-demand and highly-paid than ever before.

The types of jobs are also really varied, from hands-on roles to office-based, from creative to project management. The rail industry needs:

  • Civil Engineers
  • Data Analysts
  • Project Managers
  • Architects
  • Designers
  • Technicians

The college was set up to create the rail workforce of the future, drawn from lots of different backgrounds and with the specific skillset to progress into the above roles. Our curriculum can therefore be accessed at various different levels, ranging from school leaver vocational courses for 16+, to apprenticeships and Higher Education qualifications for 18+.

NCATI is different because it has been developed in partnership with businesses that already work in the industry. This means that our courses and our facilities have been designed specifically to give these businesses graduates with the in demand skills they need. Working closely with employers like HS2 and Alstom, the National College is here to give you the qualifications and industry links you need to forge an exciting and in-demand career.
