SANDWELL College is celebrating 10 years of excellent results and lifechanging memories at its Central Campus in West Bromwich. Thousands of young learners have gone on to positive destinations, with more than 95% of students progressing to paid employment, apprenticeships or higher level studies this year.
Options after your GCSEs will be guided by where your interests or talents lie. Employment opportunities, further training and education or a university degree are potential destinations for all our subjects from health and social care, fashion design and beauty therapy to automotive engineering, computing and construction. Students can opt to take a faster route to work with a hands-on course and industry-specific qualifications, applying their learning to real-life situations, or ensure they are workplace-ready with an apprenticeship.
Applying to Sandwell College will give you access to first class facilities including a newly launched gym, state-of-the-art esports studio, freshly revamped aircraft and Bliss hair and beauty salons. What we bring to young people is enriched by our experience outside education and our industry expertise from other sectors.
The level of support Sandwell College offers to its students was recognised in the 2021 Tes FE Awards. Our student support team made it to the final shortlist for the wide variety of skills and knowledge they bring to the college, along with external organisations such as BEAM and Crunch, to provide a package of support that develops each learner as a whole person and helps their mental, social and emotional wellbeing, whatever issues they face. Recently the hair and beauty team was presented with the Innovative Team Award by the Association of Hairdressers and Therapists for all the work they did to support their students during lockdowns.
Director of Student Services Angela Tombs explains that the college’s aim is that “no student is ever left behind”. She added: “The range, the level and the amount of support that we offer is truly unique. I am proud to work here, am proud of my team and most of all proud of the work that we all do together as a college to support every young person so that they are able to achieve.”
Mentors, student support officers, attendance officers, specialist tutors, ambassadors, work experience staff and programme achievement managers play a key part in ensuring maximum support for students. A range of strategies are put in place to help students who for example, may be anxious about attending classes, from meeting and taking them to classes, coaching and buddying.
College can make a huge difference to your career and your life, from making a fresh start after school to making new friends who’ll last forever. We’re so proud to be a part of such a wonderfully diverse and vibrant college with a safe, friendly and inclusive environment, where students are free to be themselves and whoever they aspire to be.
