St Thomas More Catholic School

A VIBRANT, EXCITING SIXTH FORM OFFERING STUDENTS A WIDE RANGE OF ACADEMIC AND VOCATIONAL COURSES AND THE OPPORTUNITIES TO THRIVE

The Sixth Form is a vibrant, exciting community which challenges students to realise their academic potential while offering new opportunities for leadership, endeavour and service.

Students are closely monitored and supported so they can achieve the best A-level and Level 3 qualifications, allowing them to progress to leading universities and long term job opportunities.

St Thomas More offers a wide range of academic and vocational courses with opportunities for students to improve their mathematics and English grades if necessary.

Every day students meet with their form group and on a regular basis have one-to-one meetings with their form tutor to discuss both academic progress and personal development. There is also a specialised team of staff dedicated to mentoring sixth formers who can help those not realising their potential to get back on track. Students who have been with the school from Year 7 benefit from already knowing their teachers and understanding the school’s expectations and routines.

There are outstanding facilities with purpose-built study areas and state-ofthe-art ICT, with staff always on hand to help and advise. The school has recently opened Bistro Six Café, a dedicated on-site sixth form study area and café with Wi-Fi access.

Students are expected to take on greater responsibility and accept leadership roles within the wider school community, making sure younger children feel secure and supported and helping the vulnerable in the local area.

Sixth formers are the school’s ambassadors and represent the school in a wide range of community activities and in sports teams. They can also express themselves through the performing arts, growing in self-confidence and learning new skills.

Many courses, including geography, technology, history and languages, allow students to go on trips abroad. Exploration is also encouraged through participation in the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme.

All students engage in a programme of voluntary service both inside and outside school, and those who choose to can work with the sick on the annual Lourdes pilgrimage.
