SIXTH FORM AIMS TO PREPARE STUDENTS FOR THE FUTURE, EQUIPPING THEM WITH THE SKILLS NEEDED FOR A SUCCESSFUL CAREER

West Walsall E-Act Sixth Form

STAFF are immensely proud of the sixth form at West Walsall as it not only prepares students academically for their future, but also supports them in developing skills that will enable them to continue their success in the next stage of their career.

The curriculum offered covers a range of subjects already and they are looking at extending the curriculum into other subject areas. The curriculum enables students to go into a variety of professions such as medicine, engineering, law, health care sector, etc.

All the staff teaching the qualifications are specialists in their subject and bring a high degree of knowledge and enthusiasm to their teaching to bring the subject to life and inspire students to continue to study their subject. Tutors and staff are experienced in guiding students to complete applications for their education after sixth form, whether this be UCAS, apprenticeship or something else.

The centre is also the proud base for the Martin O’Connor Education and Footballing Academy. The Football Academy offers students the opportunity to continue to study for Level 2 (GCSE level) and Level 3 (A-level) qualifications in sport, coaching qualifications, fitness instructor as well as continuing to develop their football ability with professional coaching.

The sixth form is based in a separate building to the rest of the school, providing its own identity and learning environment. In the building are classrooms, seating area for students to work independently, computers for research, small study rooms and a canteen run by students working with the school’s catering contractor.

During the two years of studies, students are given opportunities to broaden their knowledge and skills by taking part in local projects organised through the National Citizenship Service. Students also attend the careers fair and access one-to-one support through various initiatives. Representatives from universities are invited in to speak to students about university life, UCAS application support and the courses available.

“Whatever the future holds, students at West Walsall are supported all the way towards a successful future. We look forward to you joining us for the next stage of your education. Everyone has the right to be the best version of themselves that they can be. We all have the responsibility to get them there.”
