SIXTH FORM HELPS STUDENTS TO BECOME CONFIDENT, CURIOUS AND INDEPENDENT MINDED, WITH ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENTS THAT SPEAK FOR THEMSELVES

Wolverhampton Grammar School

WOLVERHAMPTON Grammar School is an extraordinary school. Founded in 1512, it’s one of the oldest schools in the country, within easy access of the wider West Midlands, Staffordshire and Shropshire thanks to flexible school bus links.

If you’ve never visited the stunning 25- acre campus, you can register at any time for a personal tour. You only have to step through the door to feel the tangible warmth – a warmth created by people who embody community.

Your child will be given the best opportunity to leave this school with excellent exam results. “The two years which make up the sixth form are probably the most challenging of secondary education, but they also offer the greatest opportunities too,” said Mr Toby Hughes, Deputy Head and Head of Sixth Form.

Supporting you

As young adults, sixth formers at Wolverhampton Grammar School will notice a real difference in the interactions with staff, fellow students and peers. You will receive pastoral care at Wolverhampton Grammar School like nowhere else. Sixth formers have a dedicated tutor who they see twice a day – they get to know you well and offer day-to-day support, from writing UCAS references to opening up a world of possibilities for your future.

Choosing the right fit for you

For some, choosing the three or four subjects to study for sixth form is a straight-forward process. For others, the right pathway that will lead to a choice  of university degrees, apprenticeships and employment opportunities can feel overwhelming. From your very first conversation with our admissions and sixth form team, help is at hand. Students are guided through our application process and have lots of opportunities to spend time at the school before making their final decision.

Academic excellence

The staff are totally committed to providing the best teaching and learning experience for your child – something that continued in lockdown, thanks to high expertise in online delivery. WGS offers a very wide range of subjects, from sciences to humanities, creative arts to languages. Students grow up to be confident, curious and independent-minded, and their academic achievements speak for themselves.

Despite the pressures of the pandemic, students were awarded stellar results at GCSE and A-level. Sixth form students are also able to study towards Cambridge Technical and BTEC awards in a range of subjects. Sixth form students achieved the highest number of A*– A grades for over 10 years, with 66% of entries receiving nothing but the top two grades, alongside, 165 A* – B grades awarded (85% of all students).

Students in Years 11 and 13 enjoyed another exceptional year with 100% pass rate. The school offers a tailored and individual approach to UCAS and careers support and students can expect the very best preparation possible when it comes to life after school.
